Fiona is a former lawyer and teacher whose writing skills range from comedy to thrillers. Making the audience laugh and cry within the same film/episode is screenwriting genius as far as she’s concerned, and so always aim to do just that.
She has had a number of projects optioned, a rom-com feature greenlit for Reel One, and been shortlisted for a writers’ room for a potential BBC series. Fiona’s optioned comedy series Disgracefully is currently in development with Silver Reel, and her action-thriller feature Loyalty (which was a UK Winner of the Berlinale Junior Entertainment Talent Slate) is due to be filmed next year with Mermaid Pictures and Director Jo Southwell. Fiona is also developing another action-thriller feature with a U.S. Producer of The Domestics.
In addition, Fiona’s short drama film Ring O’ Roses had its UK premiere in May 2022 as part of the anthology feature The Impact. She has also had two short stories published and achieved success as a Finalist of the Female Pilot Club/UKTV Comedy Pilots for Women by Women, an Academy Nicholls Fellowship Quarter-finalist, a PAGE Awards Semi-finalist, a Screencraft Finalist and an Austin Film Festival Second Rounder.
Fiona’s Northern working-class roots and experience of adoption, homelessness, and loss infuse her writing. As an ex-lawyer, she often addresses injustices in some form. But whatever the subject, Fiona creates engaging, believable characters, heartfelt emotion, and, whenever appropriate, a smile.
